Can you remember the last time you shared stories with someone while seated on a long wooden bench underneath the canopy of trees or in view of a sleeping horizon? Or imagine those times when you get to do things like instant assignments, have a beer or two out-of-the-blue, or discuss about your crush (madami sila noon, hehehe! Pero ngayon, si Kaye lang noh…!), or simply lie down, stretched on the aged, still smooth-skinned wood, spending your relaxing moment while looking up and thinking “Haayyy… masarap kayang lumipad parang si Superman?” Yup, those were the days. Me, frankly, it has been ages. Maybe my last good memory of conversing with good ol’ friends is probably way back college years… And yep, that’s a long time ago (been working for more than 10 years, so go figure, hehehe!!!) But yeah, those were really some of the best days I had. And those wooden benches are, in most of our lives, witnesses to the becoming of who we are and where we are now.
So bakit Bongkito? It’s actually a moniker playup of my name, Bong (pede rin Bong-bong, Bonggaceous, Bongga… basta kahit anong pedeng ikabit sa pangalan ko, pede yan!) And I guess it’s but appropriate to use my name for my blogsite’s title. And here’s why: Bongkito, as a slant term in lieu of “bangkito”, which is a small wooden bench; and Bongkito, because my wife Kaye always sees me as a growing boy stuck in a 30-ish man’s body. Talk about a name fit for a person like me, hehe! (But mind you, she loves me the way I am!)
But kidding aside, I want to transform my blogsite as a sort of “tambayan”, like in the good ol’ days… a place we miss to hang around, a place where secrets are revealed, and lives, in some way, have begun. Bongkito aims to bring back those days and maybe, just maybe, we can again rekindle those times through exchange stories of anything or everything between friends, old & new.
So if you happen to pass by, c’mon… take a seat, feel the inviting breeze and relax at the old, sturdy bench. Basta, may dala kang chichirya and panulak na softdrinks, well… tuloy-tuloy lang ang kwentuhan…
